Finally I kicked my lazy ass and managed to finish this ROM. It is the RR ROM containing Turbo Assembler and Action Replay as you could guess from the silly name :) This Turbo Assembler version uses RR RAM to store sources and runs from RR ROM, meaning you can use all memory from $0800-$ffff for your programs.

I've used it a little bit myself now and it really is the kickassest tool around if you are one of those guys who like to code on the real thing and own a RR!

Get it here:

You mean some kind of means to easily transfer files between your c64 and PC? I was thinking about this feature but I'm not sure which is the best way to do it. (ie what kind of software there should be on the PC side)...

Yes, something that works like TFR's wonderful codenet. Source and binaries for such a system can be found here:

This looks very nice. Except I'd prefer ethernet :)

It probably wouldn't be that hard to include it in the ROM, and it would be very useful. However, my plan was not to make a new ROM, but just to make this TASS version :D One alternative would be to include the TASS in the TFR ROM, if Graham is okay with that. (I dunno how much rr ram TFR uses though, it's needed for TASS) OTOH, I'm used to AR, and I'm a bit sceptical about whether TFR is as good. (I tried for the first time yesterday, so I haven't yet an opinion about this)

I need to do some thinking about what the best solution would be... any suggestions?

I'm an old FC3 user myself, so I prefer TFR. AR has a few really nice features though, and most users prefer AR6 over FC3.

As you say, ethernet transfer is very useful and would be easy to include. UDPSlave requires less than 1 kB of space and should be easy to adapt to run from ROM.

Thanks :) And yes, it's the AR6 ROM.

MagerValp: is there some specific reason why there is no serslave equivalent for ethernet? I'd rather have the power of this tool instead of udpslave, but of course, if everything else fails, including just udpslave would be the easy solution.

(btw, if you quickly need a ROM with udpslave I could try to make a version for you, it will probably take a while until the next official release of the TAR ROM anyway)

Huh? UDPSlave is the ethernet based successor of Serial Slave.

Okay, cool! Sorry for not testing it yet. I got the impression that udpslave is a simpler tool which you can only control from the PC side...

Yes, there's no file or disk copier for UDPSlave. I have some stuff in the pipeline, but Warpcopy is of course available.

I'm confused too. It looks like udpslave lets you send programs or data from the PC to the C64 (C64 acts as server), whereas serslave acts as a virtual disk drive (PC acts as server).

I think what Sounddemon is looking for is more like the Netdrive function in the final replay ROM.

That's right... I prefer to do all the typing on one computer (the 64). Is it also possible via netdrive/serslave to use the netdrive in ordinary programs and not just basic? f.ex. to save stuff from say a painting program to device 6?
